While the journey to health and wellness will look different for everyone, generally clients can expect to spend 3 to 6 months working with a nutritionist to experience real improvement. This can be shorter or longer depending on the severity of symptoms and unhealthy habits, but every step towards health is a step in the right direction.
At ViaFood, we practice a “food and lifestyle first” approach to wellness. Supplements are SUPPLEMENTAL to and not a SUBSTITUTE for healthy living. We educate clients about the use of whole food supplements, which can be beneficial in many situations to address nutrient deficiencies, hormone imbalances, and to boost the body’s healing energy. Supplements can be helpful in combination with naturally right living for addressing the root cause of deficiencies and imbalances.
A Certified Nutrition Specialists is not a Medical Physician or Naturopathic Doctor and does not diagnose, treat, or heal diseases, disorders or conditions. The purpose of nutritional counseling is to improve overall health, vitality, and well-being of the body through education and the use of natural foods and non-medicinal nutritional supplements. Clients should not alter or discontinue treatments prescribed by a licensed Naturopath, Physician, or other licensed health professional without consulting the individual who prescribed the treatment. The client is encouraged to consult a licensed Physician before implementing any special diet or supplement regimen.
As an integrative nutrition practice, we take a holistic approach to wellness recognizing the importance of all aspects of lifestyle. The goal is to address the root cause of deficiencies and imbalances in order to provide the body what it needs to regain health and vitality. Healthy weight management is one aspect of wellness that must be considered in relationship to all other aspects. While weight loss might be the client’s priority, it is important to note that the body has its own priorities to address. When adhering to a naturally right lifestyle, the body will eventually maintain a healthy weight for the individual, which is different for each body type. This means that some individuals may lose weight, but this is not a predictable factor in the journey to health and wellness.
We do not work with insurance at this time. However, some people may be allowed to use funds from a Health Savings Account to pay for nutritional counseling and supplements. Check with your employer.
We encourage you to share your recent lab reports as this may give us a better understanding of your overall health and current symptoms.
Lab testing provides objective data for initial evaluation of the health of the body, as well as to chart progress in the body’s health picture as you implement diet, lifestyle, and supplement changes. Laboratory testing is not required to work with us. However, these tests can give us a better understanding of your current health conditions and symptoms and can also alert us to the need for additional tests and/or referral to an appropriate healthcare provider for further evaluation.
If you need to reschedule your appointment, please do so 48 hours in advance. Cancellations within 24 hours will be charged the full price of the visit, except in special circumstances. Please contact loriadams@viafood.com.
Before your first visit, you will be asked to fill out a Confidential Health Questionnaire, Assumption of Risk and Release of Liability Waiver, and a HIPAA form. Expect to spend about 60-90 minutes with the counselor reviewing your healthy history, current health struggles, recent labs, current diet, and more. This is a chance for you to share your story and where you want to go on your health journey. Together, the client and counselor will begin to investigate the root cause of symptoms and brainstorm goals that will fit into the wellness plan. The client should not expect any formal recommendations during the first visit. We will discuss these in the 20-minute follow up (included in the initial consultation) or the next 45-minute follow up (as part of the 3- or 6-month package)
